Girls and boys (30/365)

Girls and boys - 30/1/10 (30/365)

He likes mint but not berry, she likes berry but not mint.

I am against gender stereotypes yet my kids love blue and pink. What are you to do?

(saturation and contrast adjusted slightly in tiltshiftgen)

It's all in my mind (2010:4/52)

It's all in my mind (2010:4/52)

Why did I come up this way? I hate coming up here, I should have left enough time to go the long way round. It gives me the creeps.

Nothing's going to happen. I'm in the midst of the train station, people are everywhere.

Just not up here.

... Don't think about it. A little bit further and you'll be back down the steps to the platform. Look there's even CCTV cameras all along here.

Why isn't anyone up here?
Walk faster.
Look. The steps. Loads of people on the platform. Relax.

What was I getting all worked up about? I'm being daft. It's all in my mind...

If Wolverine had a bat signal 28/1/10 (28/365)

I was surprised to see these 3 planes flying in close formation this morning on my way into nursery. On my way out I saw they'd crossed the other contrails and here we are.

Assignment52: week 3 - vehicles

I like headlights. I like that they come in all different shapes. However I'm not so sure of this current penchant to do the sidelights like some kind of eyeliner/ warpaint.

I would have preferred to get a photo with the lights on but seeing as it was a sneaky shot of someone else's car, I had to take what I could...

no rain (23/365)

No rain - 23/1/10 (23/365)

Flesh and blood (21/365) (2010:3/52)

Flesh and blood - 21/1/10 (21/365) (3/52)

Week 3 assignment for 2010: the year we took photos is blood. My first reaction was eurgh. Then my imagination got going:

I thought about having fun faking it with ketchup or other red liquids, red wine, blood being thicker than water, lighting my hand and seeing the veins, pricking my finger à la sleeping beauty and of course vampires. I thought about the title sequence to True Blood which I have to skip because it's too visceral, which then made me think of meat.

So here is a picture of flesh and blood taken up close by a vegetarian. Who said I won't suffer for my art.

Fascination (14/365) (2010:2/52)

Fascination -1/14/10 (14/365)
Week 2 Fascination for 2010: the year we took photos

"I am the daughter of Earth and Water,
and the nursling of the Sky:
I pass through the pores of the ocean and shores;
I change, but I cannot die.
For after the rain, when with never a stain
the pavilion of heaven is bare,
and the winds and sunbeams with their convex gleams
build up the blue dome of air,
I silently laugh at my own cenotaph,
and out of the caverns of rain,
Like a child from the womb, like a ghost from the tomb,
I arise, and unbuild it again"
The cloud - Shelley

I love the sky. I adore clouds. I could sit and watch them all day, well some of them anyway. I am in awe of something that can weigh the equivalent of 80 elephants can float a couple of miles over my head, to the wisps that streak the sky 8 miles up. It's always changing and sometimes can take my breath away.

Last year was a bit crappy. Nothing in the grand scheme of things but I'd stopped doing all the things I love - stopped actively listening to music, stopped reading, definitely stopped taking photos but I never stopped looking up.

The irony is not lost on me that I couldn't get a decent cloud shot this week because of all the clouds!

I've had enough now thank you (13/365)

I've had enough now thank you - 1/13/10 (13/365)

Me walking home in the dark. Again. I say walking but perhaps skating/slipping is more accurate.

Day 28 now and the worst. Black ice is everywhere and I have aches in muscles I didn't know I had...

orchids in January (10/365)

1/10/10 (10/365)
I couldn't decide between this and another shot for today's 365. I thought this looked a bit too much like yesterday's, however I really liked it. Also I think I can redo the other one much better so I'll try again another day
